Meet Katelyn

Katelyn Vesco - Illustrator

Katelyn is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Orlando, Florida. She is a professional curious person who loves to read, hike, and collect plants.

In May 2020, Katelyn graduated from Ohio University with her BFA in Graphic Design, where she developed her skills in composition, color theory, and typography. She has worked with various art museums, such as the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati and the Kennedy Museum of Art in Athens, as well as served as a design intern for Curiosity Advertising in Cincinnati. She has worked as a graphic artist at Capsmith Inc. where she designed headwear, arm sleeves, and facemasks for various clients.

She has worked as a Cast Member at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and has performed with the Ohio University Marching 110 in The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Today, she is happy to have found the project of "Dusty Doogle" that inspires happiness and hard work; and is currently illustrating the The Adventures of Dusty Doogle children's book series for Jeanne Apeland.

A note from the author

No children's book is complete without the work of a great illustrator. My story started out with 10,000 words, which then was condensed down to 1000, so that the rest of the story could be told through pictures.....because that's where children see the real story. Connecting the mind of the author with the creativity of the illustrator, combined with seeing it all through the eyes of a child takes tremendous skill and effort.

When interviewing illustrators, one of the reasons I chose Katelyn was because of our age difference (and there's a big one). We see things from two different angles. I was able to map out my story, describe the scene, the characters, the expressions, and even the feelings the children should have when looking at the pages. Katelyn was able to capture it beautifully, bringing her own young ideas into the mix as well.

She has brought Dusty Doogle and his family to life; and I'm looking forward to seeing her creativity with my future books..
